Latrobe University, Bundoora – New Student Accommodation
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Contributing to High-Performance Student Accommodation at La Trobe University
The student accommodation at La Trobe University is a prime example of a cutting-edge development that embodies the growing trend of high-performance, environmentally conscious construction. The use of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) in the structure facilitated rapid assembly, enhanced thermal performance, and a reduced carbon footprint.
The façade design mirrored these sustainable goals, incorporating a high-performance wall system with double-layer insulation, vapor barriers, and secondary sun shading that is thermally separated from the base wall. The high-performance windows are also thermally broken, optimizing energy efficiency.
To deliver this articulated façade, FacadeX employed a modular approach, with 6m-wide by 3m-tall segments assembled in two parts, akin to a curtain wall system. Our tested vertical and horizontal stack solution ensured that the project met its ambitious performance targets while maintaining structural integrity and aesthetic precision.
