PROJECT OVERVIEW
Distinctive Canopy Design at Pakenham Train Station
The new canopy at Pakenham train station is an impressive, modern structure designed to be a prominent landmark, spanning 80 meters in length and 24 meters in width. Crafted from Glass Reinforced Thermoset (GRT), the canopy features a wave-like, undulating form inspired by the rolling hills of eastern Gippsland.
This high-tech canopy not only enhances the station’s visual appeal but also promotes sustainability. By using advanced GRT methods, the design saved 50 tonnes of steel, significantly reducing material usage, allowing for precise and efficient construction. The project involved the production of 258 roof segments, covering 8,000 m² across two canopies—an achievement that required exceptional skill from the design and construction teams.
